Alloy & tool steel

1.2510 oil-hardening tool steel (100MnCrW4 / O1)

Oil-hardening cold-work tool steel for gauges, punches, small dies and blades; round bar.

1.2510, EN ISO 4957 name 100MnCrW4, is an oil-hardening cold-work tool steel; its American equivalent is O1. In the Iranian market it is known as 'amutit', a name taken from a manufacturer's trade name.

It reaches a high hardness with good dimensional stability when oil-quenched, and machines easily in the annealed state, which is why it is common for precision tools and smaller parts.

Hardness and delivery state

Supplied annealed at 230 HB maximum; after machining it is oil-hardened and tempered. Round bar is usually cut to the length you need.

Heat treatment

Hardening with an oil quench, then low-temperature tempering; the working hardness is chosen for the tool.

Typical uses

  • Gauges and measuring tools
  • Punches and small blanking dies
  • Industrial blades and knives
  • Precision workshop tools

The ranges the market offers, not a stock list. Rounds above about 100 mm are usually forged and traded in diameter bands.

Sizes and weights

Nominal weights at a density of 7.85 kg/dm³ (1.2510). The actual weight is weighed, and tool steel is usually sold by the weight of the cut piece.
