Each guide gives the DIN, EN and AISI equivalents, the composition, the delivery state, typical uses, the size ranges and a weight table at the grade's own density. Steels for quenching and tempering, and case-hardening steels
Machine-building steels: CK45, MO40 and VCN150 gain strength and toughness by quenching and tempering, while 16MnCr5 is a low-carbon steel that gets a hard surface over a tough core by carburising. This group is mostly traded by the full bar or by the tonne.

Tool steels to EN ISO 4957: plastic mould steel 1.2312 is supplied pre-hardened, hot-work steel 1.2344 is for dies that work against hot metal, and the cold-work steels 1.2080 and 1.2510 cut and form at room temperature. This group is usually cut to the ordered size, and the cut piece is weighed.
